I bought a set of farm animals from Oriental Trading with the intention of making a small world farm for Kay to play with. I envisioned craft stick fences and cardboard buildings. Instead, I came up with this. I wrapped a small box, with one side left open, in red construction paper for the barn. I glued 2 sheets of felt onto cardboard for the "grass" and cut out a "pond" from blue felt. The animal feed was bunched up pieces of tissue paper in a cut-up piece of toilet paper roll. And then some kidney beans in the pig pen for some "mud." Throw in a handful of glass gems, some smooth stones, and a couple of trucks and we're good to go. (I skipped fences entirely - I wanted the animals to roam freely, lol). I tried using Easter grass as hay for the barn, but that stuff was getting everywhere and I didn't want the dogs to eat it. Hence, the bare barn floor.
She was interested in it for a bit, but mostly with the trucks. They drove around the farm, with and without the animals, and even parked on the roof of the barn.
When I left the room for a few minutes, I came back to find she had swept aside all the farm accessories and was playing solely with the trucks. I could have saved myself some trouble by just leaving her the cardboard and the trucks!
