I'm afraid I "cheated" a bit on this one, as far as a craft for kids go. Kay was perfectly happy to play with them afterwards, but not so much interested in making them. She put in a half-hearted effort, letting me do most of the work.
What you need:
- Colorful magazine page
- Pipe cleaner
Laying the paper horizontally, start in the middle and scrunch up the paper until you get to the top. Pinch the middle together.
Take your pipe cleaner and wrap it around the middle of the scrunched up paper. You'll need to wrap it around a few times for it to hold securely.
Then twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together once, and make antennae. Arrange the wings as you want them. If they're a bit overlong, trim them to the size you like.
And that's it! Kay tried flying them, and they flutter nicely to the ground. I'm sure there's a game to be made from it somehow, but she just liked dropping them and watching them fall!
- There's Just One Mommy did a slightly fancier version of this craft with accordion-style pages!
