Rainbow Hearts Craft

    I feel like I've been on rainbow-mode for months. Maybe because that's how long Kay has been talking about how she wants a Rainbow Dash / My Little Pony birthday party. We still have a couple weeks to go but between rainbow decorations, rainbow paper plates and rainbow napkins, I'm surprised I don't have nightmares about the beautiful things!

A colorful craft for kids that makes a lovely rainbow decoration!

  Fortunately it works out in this case because one of the ideas I wanted to try for a party decoration also *just happens* to make a pretty cool St. Patrick's Day decoration, too. Good thing her birthday is right at the end of February instead of, say, July!

Supplies:

    * Thread or ribbon (we used hemp cord )
    * Cardstock

    * Glue stick (we love this one
)
    * Scissors

    I cut out the cloud and heart shapes on my Cricut Explore
.
 Fortunately this would be easy enough to cut out free hand or using a clip art template. The little hearts would be the most annoying part of cutting them out. If you can get your hands on a heart paper punch, I'd recommend it!

  I cut some hemp that we had left over from our clay necklaces, not measuring, just eyeballing it. To glue the hearts on, I'd put glue on one heart, put it under the thread, and then put another heart OVER the thread, making a kind of hemp sandwich. (Trust me, much easier than I make it sound - check out the picture!)

  I wasn't sure if the glue stick would be strong enough to hold the hemp string onto the cloud when we hung it up. But I gave it a try and - surprise - it worked. (Love when things work!)

  Keeping it real: I can never remember that darn rainbow song that lists off the colors a rainbow goes in, so these colors are random and I'm perfectly happy with them that way. As far as I'm concerned, if it's colorful, it's a rainbow! I only add this disclosure because I once saw a thread on Facebook where people where criticizing a preschooler's rainbow because the colors weren't in the right order. Really, Facebook people?

 We're hanging this one up in the window to celebrate St. Patty's Day. And it's now official - I just can't get away from rainbows these days! (It could be worse!)

This is such a beautiful way to create a rainbow for St Patrick's Day. We are so making one of our own to display for our Paddy's Day celebrations. Thanks so much for sharing this colourful craft on our blog hop.
