I've always been intrigued (and majorly impressed) with the homemade marble runs I've seen on other blogs made with toilet paper rolls or cut-up pool noodles. So when I was feeling a little overly ambitious, I gave it a try. I fished out packing tape from our junk drawer and raided our collection of toilet paper holders (some people collect stamps...me, toilet paper holders and empty boxes!) and set to work, thinking I would surprise Kay with my marble run masterpiece. I carefully lined up the toilet paper holders, testing with a marble at every step to make sure it worked properly. Finally I finished, thinking, "Kay is going to LOVE this!"
Eh. Not so much. Apparently the way I release a marble and the way a preschooler releases a marble are not the same. Almost every time she would let the marble go, it would overshoot, making the entire run useless. Grr. She gave it several tries (I give her credit for that) before she said, "I don't like this idea," and started ripping the cardboard tubes off the board to use for marble tunnels. I was disappointed at my failure, to say the least, but at least her 'marble tunnels' kept her busy for awhile!
