Personalized books are all the rage right now. Many companies have sprung up that offer to print your child's name in a story. Kids love their names, so it's a great idea. Most feature a generic, gender-neutral child as the main character.
But you had to know that if Hallmark was going to get into the game, they were going to do it just a little bit better than anyone else.
Mission accomplished. Hallmark's new personalized story books are unique in that you can customize the character to look like your child. With the dearth of minority characters in children's books, this a great way to get a book that your child can relate to.
We, of course, had to choose the superhero story. You can personalize the character in several ways - skin tone, hair and eye color, even hairstyle. You can even preview the whole story with your customizations before you buy.
I brought out the book for the first time when Kay was having a bad day. She had been playing superhero earlier in the day so her cape and mask were already out. (You didn't think she'd do anything wild like put it away, did you?!) She opened the package, saw the cover with her name, and smiled. Before I could read it to her, she said, "Wait! Wait! Let me get my cape!"
Best part...I have one for you!
