After 7 years, Kay is finally getting a room makeover. Newly painted walls, some new furniture, new My Little Pony sheets. It's only fitting that we add some new wall art to go with all that!
For whatever reason, I have a new-found affinity for crafting. So I thought I'd tackle this wall art thing myself.
The simple fact is, Kay inspires me to create. This one has a message I'm glad to think she'll see on her wall everyday, reminding her, even when she's mad and pouting in her room, that she is loved (a lot!).
I started out by searching for just the right font. I settled on "Curlz" from Online Image Editor (they have tons of free fonts to use!).
I laid out the words as I wanted them, and then played around with where I wanted to put the stars and moon. I used watercolors for the decoration, because I just love the look of watercolors!
When the stars were dried, I started on the letters using a brush to paint on the black color. With stencils, this is pretty fool-proof (just the way I like my crafts, hehe).
When that dried, I removed the vinyl to reveal the painted letters. (Quick fact: I just love the "reveal" moment of lifting away the vinyl!)
It was still missing something (if it didn't have any pink on it, I was sure to hear about it!), so I hot-glued some pastel star beads we had gotten from CraftProjectIdeas.com (available at WalMart from Horizon Group).
It's not perfect, but it was made with love! And most importantly, Kay loves it!
