Buttons are such a great fine motor material - the fact that they're colorful and fun are just an added bonus!
For this month's Project: Recycle & Create, we're working with buttons. We actually came up with a few projects that you'll be seeing on the blog pretty soon, but this tree craft got us outside and into nature, so I wanted to share this one first!
- Sticks and twigs
- Heavy paper
First step - finding your sticks! This was easy for us - we've had quite a few windy days and our yard is covered with branches and twigs of all sizes. We went out and collected a handful (the flatter the better for this project!) and went on to step two - putting it all together on the paper!
Our craft was more about the process of making it, so heavy watercolor paper and tacky glue sufficed. It you're looking for something a bit longer-lasting, you might want to consider canvas and a glue gun.
Kay arranged her sticks to make a tree, adding (way too much!) glue as she went along. Then she randomly arranged the buttons, adding a splash of color to the tree. I just love it! (Not to mention that it got her to pick up some of the sticks in the yard for her dad with no bribing, hehe.)
