Adventures Around the Globe

Some geography books can be...what's the word I'm looking for?...mind-numbingly dull. Imports, exports, natural resources - I'm not interested in that stuff now, much less when I was a kid!
A geography book for kids - without the boring!
Disclosure: We received a complimentary version of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. This post also contains affiliate links. Okay, now back to the good stuff...

So it was refreshing to flip though Lonely Planet's Adventures Around the Globe. It's not a comprehensive, every-detail-you-never-wanted-to-know-about-a-country book. It's more of a dip-your-toe-in-and-get-a-taste-for-how-different-places-live kind of book. There's no mention of country capitals or population stats or any of that stuff kids usually skip over anyway.
Lonely Planet geography book kids fun facts
What it does have are interesting facts about different places and the people and animals who live there. Did you know that giraffes only sleep 30 minutes a night - and while standing up? Or that the Dry Valleys of Antarctica are so called because it hasn't rained there in 2 million years?!

The illustrations are amazing, too. If I could stand to cut this book up, I wouldn't mind framing some of the pages.

But Kay was most excited about the stickers. There are different scenes to fill with stickers for each continent. It's a creative way to get a you-are-there feeling about a distant place.

Overall, Lonely Planet's Adventures Around the Globe is a book Kay and I both enjoyed...and that doesn't happen too often!

Thanks so much for taking part in the Lonely Planet Kids blog tour. I'm so thrilled you and your daughter enjoyed the book. Most of these types of books would include the dry stats and facts (like you say, the capital, population, etc.), but I really like this approach. Much, much more interesting to kids! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
