Did you know that only 10% of children's book have diversity content. That means out of a hundred books, 90 would have non-diverse characters and stories. How sad. We live in a multicultural world and it's important for children to learn early to accept everyone and their differences. Plus learning about different cultures and ways of life is a wonderful learning opportunity for children, ever-curious as they are.

MCCBD Multicultural Children's Book Day
And it's for that reason that this mission was born. January 27 is Multicultural Children’s Book Day: Celebrating Diversity in Children's Literature. Mia Wenjen from Pragmatic Mom and Valarie Budayr from Jump into a Book have organized this event to raise awareness for children's books that celebrate diversity and to get those books into more classrooms and libraries so more little eyes can see them. Proudly sponsored by Lee & Low Books, Wisdom Tales Press, Chronicle Books, author Susan Fayad  and author Stephen J. Hodges.
To get you started, I'd like to share some books that were recommended by P is for Preschooler readers.  Want even more book ideas? Check out the Multicultural Books for Kids board on Pinterest.

How very sad- only 10% :( It truly takes effort to seek out books which represent people of all backgrounds- thank you for sharing your finds!
