Cardboard Tube Kazoo

Make your own cardboard tube kazoos | P is for Preschooler
Music can be made from anything and anywhere, as a recent production of Sesame Street Live emphasized and Kay has grasped onto that message. Yesterday she said, "Look, even my apple makes music," as she took a big crunchy bite.

So we've been doing a lot of homemade music-makers, banging on the upside-down laundry basket, for example. And making kazoos from cardboard tubes.
What we used:
   - wax paper
  - cardboard tubes
  - elastic
  - skewer or scissors to poke holes
Make your kazoos from cardboard tubes
It's a simple matter of holding the wax paper over the top of one end of the cardboard tube, securing it in place with an elastic, and poking some holes on the sides of the tube. Paint and other decorations are optional (but fun!)

It took a little experimenting with her voice to get the awesome sound the kazoo can produce, but once she figured it out, she was hooked.

Note to self - should add to the supplies list: ear plugs. Just kidding!

Extend the learning

Experiment a bit with the kazoos:
What happens if you use a longer tube? Or a shorter one?

Will more holes change the sound that is made? How about less holes?

What is the wax paper is exchanged for something else, like fabric or plain paper?

What happens when you cover the holes?

Classic! I remember making these when I was a little girl. You just sparked the nostalgic side in me. I'll have to do this with my girls.

Wishing you a lovely day.
